Transparency and Accountability at KVEC

We, the undersigned residents and supporters of Keokuk, are asking the leadership of the Keokuk Volunteer Emergency Corps (KVEC) to answer basic questions from the community it serves.

KVEC operates using public and donated funds and is nominally overseen by the Keokuk Fire Department. Over the past year, current and former members and Keokuk residents have raised questions about how the organization is governed, including the elimination of member elections for leadership positions and the concentration of decision-making among a small number of individuals. Rather than respond publicly, KVEC leadership removed the organization's official Facebook page -- the primary channel residents had used to ask about its operations.

We are not calling for KVEC to be shut down, and we are not calling for anyone's removal. We are asking for:

1. A public explanation of how KVEC's leadership is selected, and whether member elections will be restored.
2. Clear, itemized reporting on how public and donated funds are spent each year.
3. A public point of contact for community and member questions, to replace the channel that was removed.
4. A commitment to respond to legitimate questions from residents, members, and journalists within a reasonable timeframe.

Accountability is not an attack. It is what any organization that relies on public trust and public money owes the community it serves. We ask KVEC's leadership to engage with these questions openly, on the record.
